LED FAQ

Here you can find the most frequently asked questions.

If you cannot find the answer to your question please contact us for further assistance.

Q. Are LED's really as good as traditional bulbs?

A. YES! Our LED's are equivalent in not only light output but also colour replication. Other LED's on the market have previously produced a very dull or low light, as well as taking time to get to full power and having a blue colour tone. Our bulbs are true replacements for your traditional lamps without compromising on power or performance. To see what our customers thought please read our testimonials.

Q. Are the LED's environmentally friendly?

A. Yes, our bulbs do not contain any Mercury or lead, or produce harmful UV or infrared beams. They run cool which means they only heat up to maximum 55° Celsius unlike traditional lamps that can heat up to 400° Celsius. This cool running mean you are less reliant on air conditioning to cool the room and produce far less C02. But the big difference is the 50,000 hour lifespan*, this means our lamps last up to 25 times longer than a tradition 2000 hour halogen bulb. That's 25 less ladders to climb! For information on government incentives please read our environmentally friendly page.

Q. Are the LED's dimmable?

A. Most of our LED range in dimmable, but you may need to change either the module on the back of your dimmer or the dimmer itself. This is because most dimmers work with a minimum load, if the minimum load is not reached it will not power the lights.

As an example if the minimum load is 30w per switch and you have 2 traditional bulbs running 50w each the total load is 100w, but 2 led's may only draw 4.5w each with a total load of 9w thus not reaching the minimum power required to power the bulbs. What this basically means is that the LED don't draw enough power for the switch to notice!

Q. What are the main advantages of LED's?

A. These are the main advantages

  • They use far less power, meaning you could reduce your lighting bill by over 90%
  • They have huge lifespans, meaning you could change the lamps 25x less than existing lamps
  • They are retro fit, so no need to change existing fittings
  • They run cool, meaning they don't heat up past 55° Celsius so less need for costly air conditioning
  • They are robust, as they are not gas pressured or have a filament they are much less delicate than traditional lamps.

Q. What are lumens?

A. Lumens is the way we measure light emanating from its source. The higher the lumen the more light is produced. For a more in depth look at lumens please see our lumen page.

Q. What are Kelvins?

A. This is the way of measuring the colour temperature in light. Our colour temperatures range from 2700 kelvins which is a yellow colour (warm white) up to 6000+ kelvins which is a brilliant white colour (cool daylight). Choosing the right colour temperature can make a big impact on the feel of the room, for more information on the colours please see our description page.

Q. What does ROI mean?

A. ROI means Return On Investment, this shows how soon you make your money back on you initial investment. So as an example if you initially spent £200 on lights the ROI is how many months it will take you to save £200 in your energy bills. To see how this has worked out for our customers please see our case studies.
